Zixuan Lu

Portrait of Zixuan Lu

Zixuan Lu is a composer, arranger, producer, and pianist studying Game and Interactive Media Scoring and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music. Classically trained as a pianist, he works across orchestral, contemporary classical, jazz, electronic, and hybrid music, with a creative practice encompassing film, game, and interactive media scoring, jazz arranging, and independent composition.

His professional experience includes composition, scoring, and arranging commissions and collaborative projects across film, games, and interactive media. His selected work includes composing original music and designing sound effects for an independent game developed in collaboration with students from USC's game program. He has also served as an arranger for Boston's AMFC live event, working with artists on musical arrangements and providing creative input during rehearsals. At Berklee, he has served as an arranger and music director for numerous recitals, creating arrangements across jazz, fusion, pop, funk, Latin, and R&B. In 2026, he presented a live performance at Berklee featuring multiple original compositions and arrangements of existing works, serving as music director, arranger, and pianist.

His artistic vision centers on creating unfamiliar worlds from familiar musical elements. Rather than treating genres as boundaries, he explores how orchestral textures, jazz harmony, electronic sound design, and other musical languages can be transformed and integrated into a cohesive musical language. Drawing inspiration from nature, surreal imagery, and the interplay of time and space, he seeks to shape immersive musical experiences through sound, atmosphere, and emotional expression.

Alongside his musical practice, he explores music technology and software development as ways to expand the possibilities of artistic creation. He believes technology can enhance creative expression, support artistic decision-making, and introduce new approaches to the creative process. His interests include developing tools and systems for composition, arrangement, sound design, and music production, bringing together artistic exploration and technical development.
